FARR ASSOCIATES <br /> 4 3 2 Tank No 3 <br /> In January of 1992, WHF drilled MW-1, to the east of the Tank No 3 excavation` MW-1 was <br /> drilled to a depth of 75 feet bgs Soil samples were collected at approximate 5-foot intervals and <br /> were analyzed for TPH-d, TPH-k, TPH-o, TPH-g, and BTEX The soil samples collected from <br /> MW-I at 2, 40 and 55 feet bgs were also analyzed for lead The analytical results of soil samples <br /> are presented in Table A-4, Appendix A The only compound detected in the soil samples was <br /> toluene in samples from 30 to 55 feet bgs at concentrations ranging from 16 to 130 ug/kg <br /> Groundwater samples were collected from MW-1 in June 1992, September 1992 and December <br /> 1992 and analyzed for BTEX, TPH-g, TPH-d, TPH-k and TPH-o TPH-o (16 2 mg/l) was <br /> detected in the June 1992 sampling None of the compounds analyzed for were detected in the <br /> September or December 1992 sampling <br /> 4 3 3 Tank No 4 <br /> Three borings were drilled near the north and north-eastern extent of the Tank No 4 excavation <br /> by ICF Kaiser in October 1994 vertical boring VBO1, slant boring SB01 and monitoring well <br /> MW-5 (ICF Kaiser, December 20, 1994) (See Figure 3) Soil samples were collected at <br /> approximate 5-foot intervals and analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, 'I PH-k, TPH-o, and BTEX <br /> Samples from the northernmost boring, VBO1, contained low levels of TPH-o (10-72 mglkg) and <br /> TPH-d (2-15 mg/kg) in the upper 20 feet Toluene was detected in samples collected from 10-40 <br /> feet at concentrations ranging from 6 to 24 ug/kg The middle boring was a slant boring which <br /> contained similar concentrations of toluene and elevated concentrations of TPH-d and TPH-k in <br /> the sample collected from 20 feet bgs The final boring, MW-5, was installed near the northeast <br /> corner of the excavation and was drilled to a depth of 80 feet bgs A single soil sample from 20 <br /> feet bgs was analyzed from this boring, with results similar to the other two borings Analytical <br /> results for these borings are included in Table C-3, Appendix C <br /> 44 Treatment and Disposal of Removed Soil <br /> Approximately 500-600 cubic yards of soil excavated from the vicinity of Tank # 3 and <br /> approximately 1,200 cubic yards of soil excavated from the vicinity of Tank # 4 were stockpiled <br /> at the Union Ice facility at 1320 West Weber facility for bioremediation Z Upon transfer of the <br /> contaminated soil, it was stockpiled and covered with 6 mil poly An aeration permit was <br /> ' applied for and issued by the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control Board Treatment of the soil <br /> commenced on May 31, 1990 Tillage was maintained on a bi-weekly basis until August 30, <br /> 1990 A sprinkler system was installed with an automatic timer to maintain moisture for dust <br /> 'Originally, WHF attempted to install a monitoring well immediately to the south of <br /> former Tank 43 (B-2) However, WHF was reportedly unable to install a monitoring well in the <br /> backfill area <br /> zThe soils were transported to the Union Ice facility on Weber Street because the Union <br /> Street facility had been sold to Arctic Ice and there was no room for treatment at the 425 Union <br /> Street address <br /> C\MyFifes\Annelwpwinlprojectslunion\ClosureRpt wpd 7 <br />
