0 0
Ted Johnston - 2 - 7 February 2005
the TDS concentrations are not expected; therefore variations in wastewater quality are believed
to be caused by the Nulaid discharge). When the Nestle, discharge is redirected for irrigation
purposes, scheduled to have occurred by 31 January 2005, the remaining industrial wastewater
quality is likely to become higher in constituent concentrations.
The workplan discusses pretreatment at Nulaid but discounts it prematurely. Reduction, reuse,
and source control are likely to be required at Nulaid to allow the City to comply with State
policies regarding groundwater protection. CIP wastewater source control might include
capturing the CIP solutions for further treatment or alternative disposal, filtering and reuse, or
use of alternative chemicals. Such procedures can result in significant improvements in
wastewater quality. In addition, it is likely that hot water is used. Feed water for boilers is
generally treated either using ion exchange or reverse osmosis. Wastestreams from boiler feed
water treatment must also be identified and addressed.
By 7 March 2005, please submit an addendum to the workplan addressing the issues that are discussed
above. If you have any questions regarding this workplan review, please contact me at (916) 464-4616.
TIMOTHY R.
