The plan was prepared to characterize soil located below the
ith thwastewater
following treatment
ponds at the City of Ripon wastewater treatment plant. The plan is app
conditions, which must be addressed before implementation of the sampling plan:
It should be stated that the samples will be collected under the supervision of a Registered
Engineer or Geologist. The report must be signed by a registered the laboratory, must be
The sample labeling, handling, and possession until transported
described. The report must include chain-of-custody documentation.
• All samples must be preserved by cooling them to 4°C immediately after collection.
Samples collected to characterize
organic compounds must be collected in a manner
• which limits headspace and the ability of the contaminant to volatilize. A core sample, collected
using a drive sampler is preferred. The sample should be capped with Teflon or aluminum
sheets, plastic end caps, and tape. Placing a sample into a glass jar is not acceptable.
The holding time for coliform bacteria in soil is not established, however, the holding time for
coliform in wastewater is six-hours; at a minimum, the samples should be delivered to the
laboratory the same day the samples are collected.
To proceed with this project, please address these comments
priorto implpleaementing
the telephone mAP and include
a project schedule by 29 February 2000.
