The Report describes the results of groundwater monitoring activities
performed on 25 July 2002, at the stormwater basin located at the Former Georgia-Pacific Corporation
Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant(Site) and in associated off-site wells. The purpose of the ongoing
monitoring at the site is to assess the distribution of chloroform in groundwater.
Results of groundwater monitoring indicated that groundwater elevations were fairly consistent with
measurements obtained in February 2002. Groundwater flow direction is to the north-northwest.
Reported chloroform concentrations in groundwater however, were lower than historical results.
Chloroform concentrations ranged from less than the laboratory reporting limit in samples collected
from monitoring well BC-6 to 39 micrograms per liter(gg/1) in BC-11A. BC-6 is an upgradient well,
and BC-11A is located in the periphery of the source area. The Report contains a recommendation to
redevelop monitoring well BC-14. Our comments on the Report are presented below.
General Comment
1. We concur with the recommendation to redevelop well BC-14. Descriptions of redevelopment
procedures should be incorporated into the next monitoring report.
2. The text and maps identify the monitoring wells as BC- followed by a number. The purge forms
however identify the wells names starting with MW-. Please ensure that the wells identified on the
purge forms are consistent with the names used in other sections of the report.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0d Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
