Box 105605
Atlanta, GA. 30348
SEMIANNUAL GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT, FIRST HALF 2002, FORMER
GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORPORA TON TRACY CHEMICAL PACKAGING PLANT, 75 WEST
VALPICO ROAD, TRACY, CALIFORNIA.
We have reviewed the 21 February 2002 Semi-Annual Groundwater Monitoring Report, First Half
2002, Former Georgia-Pacific Corporation Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant, 75 West Valpico Road,
Tracy, California (Monitoring Report). The Monitoring Report describes the results of groundwater
monitoring activities, performed on 8 January 2002, at the stormwater basin located at the Former
Georgia-Pacific Corporation Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant(Site) and in associated off-site wells. The
purpose of the ongoing monitoring at the site is to assess the distribution of chloroform in groundwater.
Results of groundwater monitoring indicated that groundwater elevations were fairly consistent with
measurements obtained in July 2001. Groundwater flow direction is to the north-northwest. Reported
chloroform concentrations in groundwater however, were lower than historical results. Chloroform
concentrations ranged from less than the laboratory reporting limit in samples collected from monitoring
well MW-BC-6 to 34 micrograms per liter(µg/1) in BC-11A. BC-6 is an upgradient well and BC-11A is
located in the periphery of the source area. Our comments on the report are presented below.
General Comment
1. According to the Monitoring Report the well casing elevation for BC-11A, installed in June 2001,
was surveyed in the field by reference to nearby monitoring well BC-10. In order to obtain accurate
groundwater elevations, a licensed surveyor must be retained to accurately determine the elevation
of BC-11.Please provide an accurate elevation of BC-11 in the subsequent semi-annual monitoring
report.
2. Groundwater monitoring at the site is conducted as required by the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board. Please cite the date of the order under which monitoring at the Site is
conducted.
California Environmental Protection Agency
ca Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real. Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption.
For a list of simple ways you can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web-site at http://www.swrcb.ca.gov/Mgcb5
