WORK PLAN FOR ADDITIONAL SOURCE AREA ASSESSMENT
Former Georgia-Pacific Corporation Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant
75 West Valpico Road,Tracy,California
AME Project No. 16014.01 -3-
The borings will be advanced with a cone penetrometer test (CPT) rig. The CPT hydraulically
pushes a rod into the ground. A sensor on the tip of the rod continuously measures tip resistance
' and side-wall friction, from which the lithology may be inferred.
Soil samples will be collected in the vadose zone at approximate 5-foot intervals until ground
' water is encountered. Soil samples will be analyzed for VOCs utilizing U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency(EPA) Method 8260.
The CPT log will be used to identify the water-bearing units. An aquifer sediment sample will
be collected from water-bearing Units 1 and 2 for possible future use in conducting in-situ
studies. Grab ground water samples will be collected with a Hydropunch or equivalent sampler
' from the unconfined aquifer and each deeper water-bearing unit encountered. Grab ground water
samples will be analyzed for VOCs utilizing EPA Method 8260. The grab ground water samples
collected from borings PB-CPT2 and PB-CPT3 will also be analyzed for the following
' geochemical parameters to assess redox status, which will influence the feasibility of in-situ
remediation techniques:
' • Sulfate and nitrate (EPA Method 300.0)
• Alkalinity(EPA Method 310.1)
' • Total Organic Carbon(415.1)
• Ferrous iron(field kit)
' • Total manganese (EPA Method 6010/7000 series)
• pH (field instrument)
' • Specific conductance (field instrument)
' • Dissolved oxygen(field instrument)
• Oxidation Reduction Potential(field instrument)
Upon completion, the borings will be backfilled with a cement bentonite grout tremied to the
bottom of the boring through the pipe used to advance the boring.
' Task 4- Report Preparation
' The results of the proposed work will be presented in a report that will be submitted to the
RWQCB and San Joaquin County. A registered geologist or engineer will sign the report. The
report will also include a discussion on the feasibility of several remedial options.
' Recommendations for pilot-scale testing or implementation of a remedy will be made as
appropriate.
R2001-032.doc
