Goldstein
Technical Director
Chemical Packaging Division
Georgia-Pacific Corporation
760 South Vail Avenue
Montebello, California 90640 11-39-2092-05/1
Subject: Transmittal of Water Quality Analyses,
Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant
Dear Mr. Goldstein:
Enclosed are results of groundwater sampling from the monitoring
wells and the groundwater recovery system in the vicinity of the
stormwater basin , north of the Tracy Chemical Packaging Plant.
Samples were obtained on October 7 , 22 , 23 , 29 , and November 14 and
20 , 1985. Samples were analyzed by our Emeryville Laboratory using
EPA method 601 .
These results show that the chloroform plume north of the stormwater
basin is restricted to the groundwater system monitored by the
downgradient wells which are less than approximately 75 feet deep
( i.e. , wells BC2 through BC5, BC7 through BC12 , and BC14 .
Groundwater for BC13 has had less than 5 micrograms per liter of
chloroform. Levels of chloroform in BC 13 have generally been 2
orders of magnitude less than respective concentration in adjacent
well BC12 , completed in the overlying groundwater zone. The
difference in chloroform concentrations measured in BC12 and BC13
indicate that a barrier exists which has limited the vertical extent
of the plume to the materials overlying the zone monitored by BC13 .
Some downward leakage may be occurring through this barrier; however,
we believe this leakage is minimal.
Very truly yours ,
BROWN AND CALDWELL
Tom K.
