z
4
State of California licensed surveyor. A copy of the surveyor report is presented with the boring
logs in Appendix C.
Soil cuttings generated during drilling were placed either in 55-gallon drums or on top of,
and covered by, visqueen sheeting. Composite samples of the cuttings were collected for waste
characterization prior to disposal.
Groundwater Monitoring Well Development and Sampling
Wells BC-18, BC-19, and BC-20 were developed on February 10, 1997. Development
i
procedures were conducted by Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc. and included alternately surging
each well with a 4-inch diameter well block and bailing sediment from the bottom of the well
using a stainless steel bailer. Well development continued until the well was free of sediment,
'1 the water being bailed from the well was relatively clear, and the temperature, pH, specific
conductance (SC) of the purge water had stabilized (three consecutive readings not varying by
more than 10 percent). Well development records, as recorded in the field by the Gregg Drilling
and Testing Inc. technician, are included as part of Appendix C.
Groundwater sampling was conducted at the Site between February 21, 1997 and March 7,
1997. The sampling procedures included collecting depth-to-water measurements, purging, and
sampling 15 groundwater monitoring wells. A sample of surface water contained in the basin
was also collected. The locations of the monitoring wells are illustrated on Figure 1.
On February 21, 1997, Brown and Caldwell personnel collected water level measurements
in 14 of the 17 existing groundwater monitoring wells in the vicinity of the Site (Wells BC-2
through BC-5, BC-7, and BC-12 through BC-20). Wells BC-9 through BC-11 were buried and
not accessible for water level measurements or sampling. Extraction well RW-1 was found to be
connected to the groundwater treatment system at the Site and therefore could not be sampled.
Following completion of water level measurements, Brown and Caldwell proceeded to collect
samples from the 14 wells and the surface water contained in the stormwater culvert located
along the central portion of the southern wall of the basin. Except for Wells BC-2 through BC-5,
a minimum of three well volumes of groundwater was purged from each well prior to sample
1 eyovu9xm9a-i3w.a.a« 3-3
