The well borings were
advanced at locations that would bring Musco's Detection Monitoring Program (DMP) into
compliance with Title 27 requirements. The Certified Engineering Geologist of record for this
work is Horacio Ferriz, CEG No. 2018.
Well borings were advanced at agreed upon locations in an attempt to locate first encountered
groundwater southwest, north-northeast, and southeast of the Class II Surface Impoundments.
Well boring MW-32 did not encounter groundwater but was constructed as a dry monitoring
well. This well is located approximately 500 feet southwest of Pond A. Well boring SB-19R
also did not encounter groundwater and was backfilled to surface grade with neat cement.
SB-19R is located at the southeast corner of Pond A. In addition, the report states that two
background lysimeters, BK-5 and BK-10 were installed. However, the location of these
lysimeters is not shown on the report figures.
Three well borings were constructed as groundwater monitoring wells set at depths to monitor
the intermediate groundwater zone beneath the Class II Surface Impoundments. Wells
MW-18R, MW-20R, and MW-21 R were advanced southeast and northeast of Pond B,
respectively. The three newly installed groundwater monitoring wells were surveyed for top of
casing elevations and northing and easting coordinates by Ryan Schiess of Epic Land
Surveying, a California Licensed Land Surveyor No. 8366.
Well Development
The three newly installed wells were initially developed on 7 January 2011 by Del-Tech
Geotechnical Support Services. Depth to water was measured in these wells between 102.00
(MW-20R) and 107.85 (MW-18R) feet below ground surface (bgs). Well MW-20R contained
over 15 feet of fines in the well casing and Well MW-21 R contained over 5 feet of fines prior to
development. The amount of fines observed in the well casing following installation is a
California Environmental Protection Agency
