f
Ben Hall -3- 18 April 2011
Musco Family Olive Company
higher concentration water of one end member is mixing with the lesser concentration end
member. Chart 7 and Chart 8 of the report indicate that sodium and chloride concentrations in
well MW-12 were increasing in concentration, similar to well MW-22. Both these wells are in
close proximity of the Ponds.
The question that remains and requires an interpretation is: what is causing the increases of
sodium and chloride in the groundwater in the vicinity of wells MW-12 and MW-22? The
source of the water affecting these wells is not identified in the report. Musco should explore
these questions and put forth a reasonable explanation for these increases in groundwater.
By 1 June 2011 Musco shall submit a leak detection and LCRS test work plan for the Class II
Surface Impoundments. The work plan shall provide a minimum of two testing methods for
both the leak detection and LCRS tests to be conducted, a comparison and cost analysis of
the testing methods, and a schedule of the chosen testing method to be performed during
2011. Results of the leak detection and LCRS shall be submitted in second
semi-annual/annual 2011 monitoring report.
The next semi-annual monitoring report is due 31 July 2011. The report shall provide an
evaluation of the increases in sodium and chloride observed in wells MW-12 and MW-22
compared to wells MW-1 OR and the newly installed DMP wells.
By 31 January 2012, Musco shall submit the second semi-annual/annual monitoring report
incorporating all monitoring data for the 2011 monitoring year, including the results of the liner
leak test and LCRS test.
Please call me at 916-464-4737 if you have any questions or would like to meet to discuss the
work that we are requesting. We are open to alternative plans and schedules within the
constraints of the applicable regulations.
7E
TODD A.
