03/22/2002 12:51 FAX 209 948 0621 %LEINFELDER 1@007
iifKLEINFELU ER
The addition of another monitoring well located in the 95 acre application area south of the
railroad tracks will be implemented within the scope of the workplan. It is understood that the
rationale behind the decision to request an additional monitoring well is detailed in CWC Section
13308 item number 6, which states that "Groundwater monitoring shall performed upgradient
and downgradient of all areas where wastewater storage or application occurs."
The proposed monitoring well located within the 35 acres of newly irrigated pasture will be
relocated to the northeast, approximately centrally located adjacent to the fi-eeway in an assumed
downgradient position of the application area.
"Please provide a description of the "cement based grout material, " described in workplan
Section 3.2. Note that this must he consistent with San Joaquin County .Environmental Health
Well Standards Section. 13.12.3. "
In Section 3.2 of the workplan it states ".,.and grouted to the surface with a cement based
grout material ." The term cement based grout shall mean a mix of cement and bentonite,
consisting of no more than 3 to 5% bentonite as stated in the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Well Standards. Kleinfelder recommends 1 to 2% bentonite be added
to the cement mixture.
"Appendix B-3,1 does not describe how the annular seal will be placed. Please describe seal
placement method that is consistent with Part II, Section 9F of the California Well Standards
Bulletin 74-90. "
• The annular space above the Filter pack shall be sealed by introducing the mixed grout via a
hose or tremie pipe. The hose or tremie pipe is lowered to the depth above the bentottite seal
and the grout is pumped. As the grout rises in the borehole the hose or tremie pie is
withdrawn. The borings will be grouted in accordance with Section 19.1) of California well
Standards Bulletin 74-90, and Section 13.12 of San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department's Well Standards.
"Appendix B-3.1 describes the possibility of installing the filter pack by tremie pipe; however,
SJCEH Well Standards Section 13 10.5 prohibits introduction of foreign substances to the filter
pack and Section 13.10.6 requires use of a tremie pipe or equivalent forfilter packplacement."
• Kleinfelder will not use water for the task of installing the filter pack. The filter pack will be
installed with a tremie pipe or the equivalent. In this case Ute use of a hollow stem auger, left
in place and removed as the filter pack is installed, will act as the mode of the filter pack
installation.
"The well survey shall be per by a California licensed Registered ,Engineer or Land
Surveyor. A copy of the survey report shall be included in the Groundwater Monitoring Well
Installation. "
13499/2002L148 Paget of6
Copyright 2002,Ktcinfclder,Inc. March 20,2002
