08/22/2002 12:52 FAX 209 948 0821 KLEINFELDER 1@009
KL EI NF[LDER
Add Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen to the list of analytes in Section 3.5. Provide a list of the analytes
included in the "General Minerals:"note that sodium must be included in that list. "
• Kleitlfelder will add Total Kjeldaltl Nitrogen to the list of analytes. The general Mineral suite
consists of the following: bicarbonate alkalinity, carbonate alkalinity, hydroxide alkalinity,
calcium, chloride, copper, foaming agents (MBAS), iron, magnesium, manganese, pH,
potassium, sodium, specific conductance, sulfate, total dissolved solids, total hardness, and
zinc.
"7f a slip cup is used on the bottom oj'the well casing, it must he secured using stainless steel
Screws. "
• Kleinfelder in conjunction with the drilling subcontractor proposes 10 use threaded bottom
caps on the monitoring wells. In the event that threaded bottom caps are unavailable and slip
caps are used, the slip caps shall be secured with stainless steel screws.
In response to the comments made by Ms. Kim Schwab of the RWQCB in regards to WDR
Order No. 97-075, the following is presented;
"Plate 2 shows a proposed groundwater well location on the north side of the surface
impoundment's. It has conte to my attention that the domestic wastewater system is in the
vicinity of this proposed well location. Furthermore, during an inspection on 16 October 2001,
irrigation of wastewater was occurring in the area immediately north of the surface
impoundments.
We are concerned that these two activities may have impacted groundwater quality in this area.
Please provide detailed information with regards to the two above issues in order to justify this
groundwater well location. If appropriate, propose an alternative location that meets The intent
of the Detection Monitoring Program of Title 27. -
• The domestic wastewater system has been defined by Musco to Kleinfelder. The monitoring
well located on the north side of the surface impoundments would not be installed in the
]each field, but would be installed closer to the northern comer of the northern-most surface
impoundment.
Wastewater is applied to the area north-northwest of the surface impoundments. The
placement of the monitoring well in question was chosen to monitor downgradient
groundwater conditions of the approximately 35 acre (pasture) area in accordance with WDR
97-037 and to concurrently monitor upgradient groundwater conditions near the surface
impoundments. Due to the limited space between the pasture and the surface impoundments
and also the location of the domestic wastewater leach field, it appears that this monitoring
well location is the only practical location. Musco shall attempt to limit irrigation of
wastewater to the area directly north of the surface impoundments.
13498/2002LI48 Page 4 of 6
Copyright 2002,Kleinfelder,Inc.
