' 0 k'■ KLEINFELDER
1
5 FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
' 5.1 FINDINGS
5.1.1. Shallow Soil Borings
A total of four shallow soil borings (GT-1 through GT-4) were drilled to assess subsurface soil
' conditions in the spray application fields. Two shallow soil borings (GT-1 and 2) were advanced
south of the Western Pacific Railroad in an existing spray application field. One shallow soil
boring (GT-3) was drilled in the existing spray application field north of the Western Pacific
' Railroad, and one soil boring (GT-4) was drilled south of the processing facility on the site in the
proposed spray application field area.
' The shallow soil borings were advanced to a maximum depth of approximately 30 feet bgs. The
' placement of the shallow soil borings were sited to best assess the subsurface soils in the areas
where runoff from the spray field may have the most impact and/or preferential collection and
' percolation to the subsurface.
GTA was located south of the Western Pacific railroad in the central portion of the southwest
' spray field. The soils encountered in GT-1 were classified as sandy clays (CL), gray brown to
yellow brown, and olive brown at depth. The soils were moist to approximately 13 %2 feet bgs.
' Groundwater was encountered at 13 % feet bgs and rose to approximately 7 feet bgs in the soil
boring. The soils encountered were classified as very stiff.
GT-2 was located near the southern boundary of the southwest spray application field. The
' subsurface soils encountered in GT-2 were classified the same as characterized in GT-1, with the
exception of the soils being hard, with occasional organic inclusions and cemented intervals
reported. The encountered groundwater in GT-2 was best described as "weep" in the borehole
' because the soil samples did not display wet conditions. The weeping was encountered at
approximately 20 feet bgs.
GT-3 was advanced north of the Western Pacific Railroad near the eastern boundary of the
southwest spray application field. The soils in GT-3 were classified as clayey silt (ML), brown,
20-2594-03.004/2011R447 Page of 16
' Copyright 2001 Kleinfelder, Inc. June 8,2001
