Box 2009 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Stockton, CA 95201 PERMIT/SERVICES
RE: Laura Saudders/Nava.rra Ranch Property
loo w. valpico Road, Traoy, California
Site Code 1.4231
Dear Ms. Lagorio,
As a follow-up to recent discussions with County Public €feal' h
Services staff regarding the analytical procedure issues used at
the subject property and discussed in. WESTON's September 25, 1990
letter to Ns. Lauri C'.otulla, we understand that the California
Department of health Services has supported WESTOiv's contention
that analysis of soil for lead was conducted by a procedure (EPA
Method 6010) equivalent to the County' s preferred method (EPA
7421) .
It is also WES'.T'ON 's understanding that the County wishes tc have Fi
letter from WESTON directly identifying the circumstances of the
sar, plina and tree analytical methodology used at the Tank T-1 area
at the for-.,ter Laura Scudder-s s site.
The fallowing info sat—on is a suzrmary of data taken from the
WES'S'ON project report to Laura Scudders entitled "Soil Remediation
Proposal" dated January 31; 1990 and additional WESTON records:
The T--1. Tank (10v0 gallons) was removed in May 1989 and
analysis of initial tarok bottom samples indicated a total lead
concentration of up to 61n :: mg;Ng. An organolead ana,_ysis was
conducted on one of the tank excavation samples wA.th non
detectably: results. At the request of San Joaquin County, One
additional soil sample was collected on January 24 , x990 from
a depth of 15 ' below grade and analyzed for soluble lead. The
County did. not specify any particular method of analysis.
The soil sample, identified as "T-2 15-16. 5 A,B" (the sarrile
was taken from the T--1 area even though it was labeled
"T-2 . . . " . ) , was analyzed for soluble lead by leachate extCr_ac-
tion by the acidic EP Toxicity Test and analyzed by EPA Method
6010. The entire analytical report for this test, signed by
the WESTON Laboratory manager at the time the analyses were
run, is attached. The results for lead were non--detectable at
a detection level of 500 ug/L.
