ZOMBIE 02AIM,1
Y
t
SOIL INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
TANKS T-2 AND T-1 AREAS
Laura Scudders Tracy Plant
f, 100 W. Valpico Road
f' Tracy, California
1.0 Introduction
This soil investigation work plan is being prepared to address
concerns raised by the San Joaquin County Department of Health
Services in regards to the site conditions at the Laura Scudder's
plant located at 100 W. Valpico Road in Tracy, California (Figure
44 1) . Of particular concern is the possibility that petroleum
f hydrocarbon residues may exist beneath the area from which a 10,000
gallon diesel tank (Tank T-2) was removed. A secondary concern is
in regards to the lead concentrations beneath the area from which
a 1,000 gallon gasoline tank (Tank.T-1) was removed. This report
outlines the investigative approach proposed to obtain data to
assess the need for further site investigation.
2.0 Tank Use and Test Results
The plant area from which the tanks were removed is owned by Laura
Scudders, Inc. , a subsidiary of Borden, Inc. The site is located
at 100 W. Valpico Road in Tracy, California. The primary person
responsible for the site is Mr. George Jeppson with Laura Scudders,
Inc. The following is a summary of the results of tank integrity
test conducted on tank numbers T-1 and T-2 prior to their removal
as well as discussion of an estimate of the quantity and composi-
tion of the contents which may have leaked.
2.1 Tank T-2 Area
In 1987, the tank T-2 and associated piping were integrity tested
by Accutite Company. The tank system failed the test and the tank
was subsequently uncovered and retested. The tank passed the
retest. The tank piping was then tested and did not pass the test.
_. Based an the age of the piping and the tank, both were removed.
Prior to 1987, the tank had not been used for more than seven
years. No inventory records are available. Therefore, estimates
as to the amount of diesel which may have been released over time
cannot be estimated. The contents of the tank, according to Laura
Scudder's personnel, have always been diesel. Therefore, based on
this knowledge and the analytical results for the initial soil
samples, any hydrocarbon compound presence found can be assumed to
be from diesel fuel.
-- -- -
-2,2 -Tank-T-1-Area -- - -- ------ - --- ---- - -- - -- -
Tank T-1, a 1000 gallon tank, was removed in May 1989.
