FA MR,
To obtain data on the vertical extent of the compound presence,
WE5TON on the behalf of Laura Scudders, Inc. , proposer to install
a single borehole, utilizing a hollow stem auger, in the center of
the Tank T-2 area as shown on Figure 5. This borehole will extend
vertically to first groundwater, which for this site is estimated
to be 60' beneath the ground surface (BGS) .
This borehole will be lithoiogically logged at 5' intervals
starting at a depth of 20' SGS. No logging will be conducted above
20' due to this strata being composed of non-native backfill
material. The borehole will he lodged by an on-site geologist
utilizing a brass tube lined California modified split spoon
sampler to collect the lithologic samples.
in addition to the borehole logging, soil samples will be collect Z
for chemical analysis at 5' intervals starting at a depth of 5.
These samples will be analyzed for TFH as diesel utilizingEPA
Method 8015 and BTX&E compounds utilizing EPA Method 8020. Samples
for analysis will be collected at the 5' intervals until groundwa-
ter in encountered. The brass tubes will be sealed with teflon
liners and plastic end caps. The end caps will be secured
utilizing plastic tape. The tubes will be labeled according to
depth and delivered with appropriate chain of custody documents to
the laboratory. During the transition period, the samples will be
stored on ice in a cooler. All sampling activities will be logged
by on-site WESTON personnel.
Upon encountering groundwater, the borehole will be extended an
additional 5' into the water bearing zone. A clear teflon bailer
will then be utilized to collect a water sample from inside the
hollow stem augers. The water retrieved'within the bailer will be
examined for any signs of floating product. A water sample will
then be collected for analysis for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
diesel. After collecting this sample, the auger annulus will be
purged, utilizing the bailer, an equivalent of 3 standing water
- volumes at which time a sample will be collected for analysis for
BTX&E compounds utilizing EPA Method 602.
collecting water samples from within the auger string is a time
saving water screening technique which provides an indication of
the water quality. The samples should not be considered as
definitive as those ccilected from an actual groundwater monitoring
T well.
The water samples will be collected in EPA approved sample
containers. The samples will be labeled appropriately and
delivered to the laboratory accompanied with appropriate chain of
custody forms. During the transition period, the samples will be
stored on ice in a cooler.
-- - ----- ,_r - -All-samples-will_-lie analyzed-by the-WESTON Analytic's laboratory in
Stockton, california, which is California State -certifiedo
perform the analyses required for the project. rased on 'the
results of the soils and water samples, the need for additional
site investigation/remediation work will be evaZrated.
- 9 -
