All
supporting documentation will be enclosed with our EnvironmentalHealth report and
will be copied to your ent.
Dunt of ossa
In reviewing our readings ofthe Sulfuric acid have determined that the total
amount of sulfuric acid released from 12:30 on Friday,July 14, 1995,to 8.00 a.m.,
Sunday,July 16, 1995,was less than 216 gallons. s' a change in tank level divided
by time,we were able to calculate a rate of acid flow from the e rate was
determined to be 4.96 gallons per hour. Due to the delivery of acid on Friday and the
increasein head pressure of sulfuric acid on the tank and the associated transfer lines we
assumed t the weakened pipe probably failed resulting in a leak at or about 12:30 p.m.
on Friday July 14, 1995.With a total of 43.5 hours frombeginning to end ata rate of 4.46
gallons per hour we have determined the amount removed from e tank to be 216
gallons. Of the 216 gallons removed during this time some was used for p
adjustment in our cooling system and our reverse osmosis unit. The amount of acid that
was released, opposed to being used in our processes,is still to be determined. A
portion of the 216 gallons of sulfuric acid which left the storage tank did not leak out of
e pipe and was used in the system for pH adjustmentour cooling system d reverse
osmosis unit. I have closed a site map and a"blow p"of the affected area for
your review.
