HA ZARDOUS MATERIAL/WASTE SPILL RESPONSE CONTINGENCY PLAN
In the event of a hazardous material/waste spill, whether liquid or solid, initiate the
following action:
1. Notify personnel in the immediate vicinity.
2. If you can do it safely, attempt to isolate the spill site and deny entry. Remember, be
cautious and treat materials as hazardous until proven otherwise.
3. Notify the TMC Dispatch.
Supervisor's Action:
1. Evacuate all non-essential personnel from the immediate area.
2. Notify the TMC of the emergency. The TMC will make the required notifications, and notify
all emergency response agencies.
3. If you can do it safely, attempt to determine what materials are involved through
the use of labels, placards and by talking with the individuals involved.
4. If you feel you can do it safely and the required actions are within your
capabilities, training and the required personal protective equipment for your use,
attempt to contain the spill to prevent spreading.
5. If the material is unknown or if you have identified the material, but
the hazards are unknown; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTAIN THE SPILL
MATERIAL. Instead remain at a safe distance within the vicinity of the spill site. When
the emergency response personnel arrive, brief them with your findings.
6. _Provide a summary of actions to the Regional Manager and the District 10 Hazardous
Material Manager immediately upon completion of the clean up actions.
16
