Mr. Eric Trevena
San Joaquin County Public
Health Services
December 29, 1993
In addition to the above, it is my understanding that some issues were raised as
to the mixing of waste oils from the Can Manufacturing Plant and the Cannery. This was
based upon a conversation with Mr. Boyd Stevens of Pacific Coast Producers Corporate
Offices. Please be informed that Mr. Stevens was in error with respect to his statements.
Pacific Coast Producers has not, in fact, consolidated waste oils from these two sources.
With respect to the Waste Source Reduction Plan, it is our understanding that the
volumes of hazardous waste routinely generated by Pacific Coast Producers do not
exceed the levels triggering the requirement to have a Plan. Nevertheless, we would like
to inform you that Pacific Coast Producers is actively involved in replacing solvent based
materials to water based materials which should result in reduced waste generation. In
addition, Pacific Coast Producers will be utilizing CaVEPA's new Hazardous Waste
Source Production Compliance Checklist System to document its hazardous waste source
reduction activities.
Finally, it is my understanding that you requested a review of the following
documents and found them to be in full compliance:
Hazardous Materials Management Plan.
Hazardous Waste Contingency and Emergency Response
Plan.
1992 Hazardous Waste Manifests.
If we can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
It is our hope that this communication will preclude the need for any formal report of
violations.
91
