OES - Sharpe Army Depot, Iathrop
August 28, 1995
Page -2-
was not encountered during the removal of TK1. At the completion of the field work, the tank
excavation was approximately 3 feet by 4 feet by 5 feet deep.
The excavated soil was stockpiled approximately 5 feet to the south of the tank excavation.
The soil stockpile was sampled to allow options for the fate of the soil (i.e. land disposal, aeration,
etc.) to be evaluated. After completion of the soil sampling, the stockpile was covered with plastic.
3.0 SOIL SAMPLES
Following the removal of the UST, one soil sample was collected from a location selected by
Letitia Briggs of the SJCPHS,EHD. The soil sample (1407 -Mid 5-8/14/95) was collected from below
where TK1 was located at the center of the floor of the excavation at approximately 5.0 feet bgs.
The sample was collected by driving a clean brass tube into freshly exposed soil brought to the
surface in a backhoe bucket. The soil sample was immediately sealed with Teflon tape, capped,
wrapped with duct tape, labeled, and placed in a cooler chilled with Blue Ice.
One soil sample (1407 -SP -8/14/95) was collected from the soil stockpile as directed by Letitia
Briggs of the SJCPHS,EHD. A clean brass tube was driven into the approximate center of the
stockpile at a depth of approximately one foot below the stockpile surface. The soil sample was
immediately sealed with Teflon tape, capped, wrapped with duct tape, labeled, and placed in a cooler
chilled with Blue Ice. The soil samples were hand delivered following chain -of -custody procedures to
GeoAnalytical Laboratories in Modesto, California, for analysis.
4.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil samples were analyzed for TPH-G by Method 5030/LUFT, for BTEX constituents
(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzenze and total xylenes) by Method 8020, for TEPH constituents
(kerosene, diesel and motor oil) by Method 3550/LUFT and for TTLC (total threshold limit
concentration) lead by Method 7420. The lab analyses were selected by Letitia Briggs of the
SJCPHS,EHD. The results of the laboratory analyses are presented in Table 1. Analytical methods
used, detection limits, and results of analyses are included in the laboratory reports, Appendix B.
The chain -of -custody record for the soil and groundwater samples is included in Appendix B.
%4 CONDOR
