The removal project began after CAL
INC completed the installation of two above-ground storage tanks on lst Avenue, and 13,000
gallons of fuel were transferred from the USTs to the new ASTs. The concrete pads on which
the USTs were strapped were left in the 30 to 45 foot-wide by 120 foot-long by 12 to 13 foot-
deep excavation. The project was regulated under Title 23, Chapter 16 CCR by the California
State Water Resource Control Board and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board because groundwater was intersected at a depth of about 12 feet in the excavation.
N:\PROJECTS\3546\Reports\3546 UST Closure Report Draft.doc March 24,1999
