UST Closure Report
Sharpe Defense Distribution Region West
Lathrop,California Paae 20
(16 µg/kg). The sample with 68 µg/kg TPH-D was collected from the south end of the truck fill
stand. It also contained 23 mg/kg lead.
The only component of the BETX compounds detected above detection limits was traces of
xylene in two soil samples from piping trench floors (6.4 and 7.6 gg/kg).
The composite sample (SPC-4+SPC-2) from the small stockpile of 50 to 60 cubic yards of
materials excavated from the piping trenches contained 28 mg/kg TPH-D, 55 µg/kg MTBE and
19 mg/kg total lead. These concentrations are factors of 28, 5.5 and 4 greater than their
respective method detection limits. The discrete sample, SPC-3, was analyzed for oxygenates,
only. They had concentrations below the method detection limits. Neither the composite nor the
discrete sample was analyzed for BETX compounds.
6.0 MATERIALS HANDLING AND DISPOSAL
6.1 UST and Piping Rinsate
Delta Oilfield Services of P.O. Box 1675, Woodland, CA, 95776 (telephone (530) 662-2841)
vacuumed 1,500 gallons of sludge from seven USTs (all but the 550 gallon UST) on December
17, 1998. Delta transported the sludge to Chico Drain Oil Service at 1618 West 5th Street,
Chico, CA, 95923 (telephone (530) 345-9043) on February 22, 1999 for treatment and disposal.
A copy of the generator's copy of the Non-Hazardous Waste Manifest is included in Appendix 6.
The waste was classified as Used Oil & Water, non-RCRA Hazardous Waste Liquid.
Delta Oilfield Services, the following day, December 18, 1998, vacuumed 2,500 gallons of
rinsate from all the USTs into their tank truck. Delta transported the rinsate to Chico Drain Oil
Service for treatment and disposal on February 22, 1999 (see Appendix 6 for a copy of the Non-
Hazardous Waste Manifest).
The 50 gallons of oily rinsate from triple rinsing the product and vapor return piping, were
picked up by American Valley Waste Oil, Inc. on February 5, 1999. American Valley
transported the rinsate in a tank truck to Industrial Service Oil Company's treatment and disposal
facility at 1700 South Soto Street, Los Angeles, CA 90023 (telephone (562) 598-5577).
6.2 Underground Storage Tanks and Product Piping
Trident Truck Lines of PO Box 17, Gustine, CA 95322 (telephone (510) 783-2881) transported
the eight USTs (as six separate truck loads) from the site on December 23 and 24, 1998.
