When possible, traffic will be redirected from <br /> traffic areas in which employees are required to work <br /> Approved high visibility reflective traffic safety vests are required if traffic is present or anticipated as a hazard. <br /> Site will be secured using proper barricades, tape or other traffic control devices. <br /> Traffic Control Plans will be designed in accordance with WATCH manual or local guidelines. <br /> Noise >85 decibels Noise is a potential hazard. Prolonged exposure to noise in excess of 85 decibels can over time cause temporary <br /> or permanent hearing loss. For reference, 90 decibels is equivalent to a lawn mower or motorcycle from 25 feet. <br /> Approved hearing protection, including earplugs or earmuffs, is required when exposed to noise in excess of 85 <br /> decibels. <br /> Excavation ® Underground utilities will be identified. <br /> and Trenching . Trenching and excavation will be conducted under the supervision of a qualified individual. <br /> • A Cal/OSHA permit will be obtained for trenches or excavations greater than 5 feet that will require a <br /> person to enter. <br /> • No person shall enter an excavation or trench greater than 5 feet deep unless the excavation has been <br /> properly shored or sloped on all sides. <br /> • Shoring and Sloping Procedures shall be consistent with WPI Standard Operating Policy regarding shoring <br /> and sloping. <br /> • Excavated materials should be placed so they will not be able to fall back into the excavation. <br /> • Do not park heavy equipment next the sides of trenches or excavations. <br /> • Trench plates should be used to cover trenches that are not in use. <br /> Heavy Including .
