LMH Safety/Security Manager
Lodi Memorial Hospital
Tak Saito, Director of Facilities Management
Nancy Reich, South Wing Project Manager
Lodi Memorial Hospital
June 12, 2008
Lodi Memorial Hospital, South Wing Addition Decontamination Tank
The. South Wing Addition will provide us with a new ability to better control Hazardous Material
contamination and wastewater in the event of a decontamination incident Our process is to remove
any wastewater containment after an incident within 24 hours. Our only purpose for the underground
storage tank is to provide an emergency response to our community in the event the situation would
warrant decontamination of people exposed to a hazardous material. Our position is to be In a
dant stale of preparedness. This requires us to immediately empty the underground storage lank
after any event. The event would be treated as a Hazardous Material and waste situation. One of the
steps in the decontamination process is to remove the contaminated wastewater once the people have
been appropriately treated. We would need to return to normal operations as soon as possible and
this requires us to remove and appropriately manifest any contaminated wastewater within a 24 hour
period to be ready for the next potential decontamination event Our current removal process involves
our insurance carrier who provides us with a selection of vendors that will be able to respond within 24
hours of an event through the Pier 11- Pollution Incident Environmental Response Program. The Pier
11 Program contracts with these vendors so there is no specific vendor name. They are determined by
the We of incident. They have the capability of securing the most available vendor for responding to
handle the removal of an underground tank contaminant. The South Wing opening is anticipated in the
spring of 2010. Therefore the underground storage tank will not be in service until that time.
