This information is provided as a
guide for the application of these products and is as accurate as is posslbls. Testing was
performed on fully immersed speclrnens. As you read keep in-mind that the application of the
Weaver products rarely ragUirse the part to be fully immersed. All Information is reprinted wit`j
j the permission of the E. I. DuPont Company.
OILS & GREASES , The oil resistance of Aicrynm is outstanding, equivalent to that 0 a
nitric® rubber of medium-high aorylontrlle content, Aloryne has excellent resistance to fuel oil
but test results change with the aromatioity of the oil grade. Aleryn$ is also resistant to veg-
etable and mineral oiis, and tc lithium-based and silicone-based greases. in most cases the
application of the Weaver products in an oil or grease environment is recommended.
HYDRAULIC FLUIDS - The resistant,@ of Aloryn°to hydraulic fluids is mixed. It shown tit i
change in volume or hardness when exposed to automatic transmission or power steering
fluids. fest specimens flexed in UI118A hydraulic fluid at 212 degrees !" did not crack after 404
hours. However. Alcryne is moderately affected by brake fluid, and severely degraded by
proprietary hydraulic fluids such as SKYOROL 500. The application of Weaver products Is
recommended for generic hydraulio fluids.
i FUELS - The fuel resistance of Aicryne is outstanding. As with oil&, the fuel resistance of
Alorye depends upon the aromaticity of the fuel. It holds up well in ASTM reference Fuels A
and 8, diesel fuel, jet fuel and kerosene. it has good resistance to unleaded gasoline and
gasohol, but is moderately attacked by ASTM reference Fuels C and D. The most common
affect of fuels to Alcryns is swelling. With exposure to fuels Alcrynm will expand, and in the
Weaver applications this improves sealing performance,
SOLVENTS - The solvent resistance of Alcryn® depends upon the chemical structure of the
solvent. Alcryna has very good resistance to alcohols, amines, and parefflnic hydrocarbons. I'
has moderate resistance to aromatic hydrocarbons, and is severely attacked oy ketones,
estars and Chlorinated solvents. The application of Weaver products in a solvent environn',er.t
should be evaluated on a case by case basis.
WATER. ACIDS and AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS - Alorynm is essentially uraffectod by immor-
sion in water or aqueous solutions of inorganic salts at temperatures up to 212 degrees F. i1
holds up very well In dilute hydrochloric or sulfuric acid at room temperature, but is affected et
higher temperatures. Dilute nitric or ac6tio acid causes somewhat more volume and property
changes titan does hydroaMlorio or sulfuric acid. Conoontrated sulfuric or nitric acid has fairly
severe effects on Alcrynp. Applications of Weaver products in an acid environment should be
evaluated on a case by case busts.
Recommendations are made from the results of seven day immersion tests performed by r
E.I. DuPont, Tests were performed at room temperature on sten-compressed slabs of Aicryn"
2070BK.
A'DrQVals-B nkwvtiAnr AMehr M\A&IT r_GG7'i R*nof#Mewxan'11.s Q of-..ni—Al- f1 k GMA4 0 m,V); on•.
