The Site Supervisor is responsible for implementing the site safety plan and any
required emergency response. This responsibility falls to the next senior person at the job
site in the absence of the Site Supervisor. The person coordinating the emergency
response in this section shall be referred to as the Lead Person.
Recognition of and reaction to emergency conditions falls primarily on the Site
Supervisor, but is also the responsibility of all personnel on the job site. Recognition and
prevention of emergency situations are covered in the "Code of Safe Practices".
In the event of an emergency situation, the Lead Person shall evaluate if they have
the means to correct the condition causing the emergency. In the event that the
appropriate personnel and/or equipment required to correct the emergency condition are
not at the job site, the Lead Person shall telephone 911 for emergency help. In addition,
the resident Construction Engineer shall be notified immediately of the emergency
condition.
All personnel shall be evacuated from the affected area, and moved a safe distance
awayfrom the hazard. Site personnel and equipment shall be used to prevent other people
from entering the affected area until help arrives. NO ONE SHALL ENDANGER THEIR
OWN LIFE BY ENTERING A KNOWN HAZARDOUS AREA WITHOUT PROPER
TRAINING, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPORT REGARDLESS OF THE REASON. The
Lead Person shall identify the area affected by the emergency condition, and shall
determine what constitutes a safe distance until professional emergency personnel arrive
at the site.
See the following page for an area map and location of the nearest hospital.
