Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in ground water samples collected from on-site
monitoring wells ATR -2, ATR -3, and ATR -4 during quarterly sampling in October 1992.
On December 16, 1991, Brown and Caldwell performed a series of vapor extraction pilot
tests at the Site. The results of the test are contained in a report prepared by Brown and
Caldwell dated February 18, 1992. The results of the tests indicated that the subsurface
conditions at the Site were favorable to soil venting remediation techniques.
ARCO plans to implement a vapor extraction and ground water treatment system to
remediate petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and ground water at the Site. Brown and
Caldwell is in the process of designing the remediation system for the Site. A
remediation plan dated May 1, 1993 was prepared by Brown and Caldwell and submitted
to the PHS-EHD.
The proposed work to be performed by Roux as part of the UST removal project will
include the following:
• Observe the removal of the USTs and product lines and the excavation of soil in
and around the existing USTs and product lines.
• Collect samples of native soil at intervals of 20 linear feet from the base of the
product line trenches.
• Collect a water sample from the standing water in the tank cavity excavation.
• Collect composite samples from the stockpiled soil.
• Submit the soil samples to a California Department of Health Services certified
laboratory for chemical analysis.
• Supervise the disposal, and, if required, on-site aeration of the stockpiled soil.
• Oversee the installation of tank cavity wells and subsurface piping for use in a
future soil and ground water remediation system.
3 Doc #A159WO1.1.5
