October 16, 1998
Quik Stop Markets, Inc.
4567 Enterprise Street
Fremont, California 94538
SITE: QUIK STOP MARKET NO. 124
505 NORTH MAIN STREET
MANTECA, CALIFORNIA
RE: SUMMARY OF SOIL SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
Dear Mr. Karvelot:
Project No. 41-0184
At the request of Quik Stop Markets, Inc., Alton Geoscience performed soil sampling activities at Quik
Stop Market No. 124 located at 505 North Main Street in Manteca, California (Figure 1). On
October 1, 1998, three soil samples (D-1, D-2 and D-3) were collected from the excavation associated
with product dispenser replacement activities (Figure 2). On October 8, 1998, Alton returned to the
site to collect an additional deeper sample at location D-1 using an hand auger.
Soil samples were collected directly beneath the former dispensers locations (Figure 2). Soil samples
D-1 (3) and D-2 (3) were collected at a depth of three feet below grade (fbg) as requested by the San
Joaquin County Department of Environmental Health (SJCDEH). The deeper soil sample from
location D-1 was collected from a depth of 6.1 fbg. Soil sample D-3 (4) was collected at a depth of
four fbg, because a one -foot over -excavation of this area was required by the SJCDEH.
Soil samples were submitted to a state -certified laboratory and analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) using EPA method modified 8015, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
total xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020, and oxygenated compounds using EPA Method 8260.
Copies of the official laboratory reports and chain of custody records are attached to this letter report.
No TPH-G, BTEX, or oxygenated compounds were detected above laboratory reporting limits in soil
samples collected from D-1, D-2, or D-3, with the exception of total xylenes (0.15 mg/kg) and MTBE
(190 ug/kg) in sample D-1(3). While MTBE was detected in D-1(3), it was not present above
laboratory reporting limits in the deeper soil sample D-1(6.1).
I R V I N E - L I V E R M 0 R E - N 0 R T H R 1 D G E - S A N D I E G O - SANTA FE SPRINGS
30A Lindbergh Avenue - Livermore, California 94550-9503 - (925) 606-9150 - FAX (925) 606-9260 - www.altongeo.com
