GRA l LA1 r ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING SERVICES
September 11, 1997
022-131
Mr. Sam Orlando
Orlando's
5611 East Waterloo Road
Stockton, California 95215
Subject: Soil Aeration Stockpile Characterization Report
5611 East Waterloo Road
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Orlando:
At your request, Grayland Environmental (Grayland) has prepared this brief letter report, which
summarizes our aerated soil characterization work at the site located at 5611 East Waterloo Road
in Stockton, California(Figure 1). The purpose of our work was to verify that the soil aeration work
conducted at the site was successful in mitigating the soil contaminants detected previously in the
stockpiled soil. The scope of our work included the collection of six soil sample composites, each
consisting of four individual soil samples, from the aerated soil at the site, contaminant
characterization by laboratory analysis, and preparation of this letter report.
Grayland arrived at the site on August 12, 1997, to collect soil sample composites from the
approximated 300 cubic yards of aerated soil. The aerated soil layer was divided into six units each
consisting of approximately 50 cubic yards(Figure 2). Four individual soil samples were collected
from each 50 cubic yard unit of soil. The aerated soil at the site consisted of tank bedding sand, and
native sandy silt and clayey sand. A trace odor of petroleum hydrocarbon was detected in soil unit
SAP6 during the soil sample collection work(Figure 2).
Each individual soil sample was collected by first removing approximately 1 to 2 inches of soil from
the surface of the aerated soil layer and then driving a hand-operated ATM percussion core sampler
containing a clean stainless steel sleeve into the freshly exposed surface. Each sleeve containing a
soil sample was sealed with plastic end caps, labeled with the project and sample identification
numbers, and placed immediately in iced storage for delivery to the environmental laboratory. The
soil samples were listed on a chain of custody record, which was submitted to the laboratory with
the soil sample composites. The four individual samples collected from each soil unit were
composited by the laboratory into one sample for analytical testing.
2731 Quail Street Davis, California 95616 (916) 756-1441
Grayland 022-131.ssc 1 September 11, 1997
i
