(Shaw) is pleased to present this letter report work plan
detailing proposed removal and disposal of approximately 1,000 feet of fuel piping
located at the above-mentioned AT&T facility. In additional, approximately 120 feet of
piping located within an inaccessible piping chase is to be abandoned in place. The
piping is used to provide diesel fuel from a 25,000-gallon underground storage tank
(UST)located in the sidewalk to the north of the AT&T building to two standby
generators with base tanks located on the roof of the AT&T building.
As part of a piping upgrade project, new piping is to be installed with the old fuel piping
then removed. The following sections of this work plan detail the proposed piping
removal activities.
Fuel Piping Removal and Abandonment
The fuel piping leading from the UST enters into the basement of the building and runs
along the ceiling to a piping chase leading to the roof of the building and then to the two
standby generators. Following installation of new fuel piping, the piping located within
the basement and on the rooftop is to be removed, with the piping located within the
inaccessible piping chase to be abandoned in place.
Prior to removal/abandonment, diesel fuel within the supply and return piping will be
drained back into the UST. In order to remove diesel fuel in sections of piping where the
fuel cannot be gravity-drained back into the tank, the fuel will be removed using an
explosion-proof drum vacuum and transferred into a 55-gallon drum. The piping will
then be rinsed to remove residual diesel fuel using a hot pressure washer and detergent,
