Mr. Steve Sasson
February 23, 1999
Page 2
Results of the soil sampling and analysis indicate that the soil beneath the former USTs and
dispensers has not been impacted by significant concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons.
The soil sample collected from beneath the southwestern dispenser did contain 0.017
milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of MTBE. At a depth of 8 feet beneath the western canopy
support, TPH-as-gasoline was detected at 350 mg/kg and xylenes were detected at 1.2 mg/kg.
Results of the soil stockpile sampling and analysis indicate that the soil pile contains only
trace concentrations of MTBE and TBA. MTBE was detected in one of the ten composite
soil samples at a concentration of 0.0052 mg/kg. TBA was detected in four of the ten
composite soil samples at a maximum concentration of 0.18 mg/kg. Based on these results,
the soil stockpile should be made available for on-site spreading and/or re -use as backfill
material.
Thank you for your assistance on this project. Please review these results and provide
approval for on-site soil disposition and concurrence that no further environmental corrective
action is necessary beneath the USTs and dispensers. A work plan to remove the impacted
soil from beneath the western canopy support will be submitted under separate cover to Ms.
Margaret Lagorio of PHS/EHD. If you have questions or need any additional information,
please call me at (916) 354-3250.
Sincerely,
RAMAGE ENVIRONMENTAL
Joseph Ramage, R.G.
Project Geologist
Attachments: Figure 1, Site Plan
Table 1, Analytical Results, Soil
Table 2, Analytical Results, Soil Stockpile
Laboratory Reports
CC: Mr. R.
