E
OPEN EXCAVATION EUZARDS
The Project involves the uncoverin& excavation and removal of underground fuel
tanks and pipelines. Primary hazardous associated with exelvation is exposure to
the open excavation area, resulting in falls and or collapse. To mitigate this hazard,
the following safety actionsshall be :::1:
- No person shall be allowed to enter nay excavation greater then five feet deep
or less than five feet when soil testing or -conditions indicated that the soils are
proneto movementThis :P dose not address i ♦ excavation that
protection prior to entry.
- All excavated soils (spoils) shall be placed a minimum of two feet back from the
edge of the excavation and at a distance to prevent excessive loading on the face
of
1 excavation.
- The use of heavy and/or vibrating equipment (with the exccption of the excavating
equipment itself) adjacent to excavation shall be prohibited.
Theposition 1 • proximity of •:" backhoe and • • 1 : equipmentshallF..-considered
when .. :: - ` : 1. tthedangers of moving ground 1 • the 1 d to
protectexcavations
form collapse.
- All excavated areas shall be clearly marked and /or fenced to prevent unauthorized
and/or ac6dent• 1 •work areas.
Necessaryfoot and •vehicle traffic i ll be directed ...• form 1 f.aroundexcavation
work areas,..1. •the routesmarked.
reviewed- Excavations shall be protected from intrusion of water.
The scope of work dose not require personnel to enter into tanks, excavations or other
confined spaces.
