Fblkderf FD103
Liquid Hydrocarbon Detection
Major features:
• Interfaces with present FD -system -RA probes and new
-RA vapor probes
• Safe for all Class I, Division 1, Group D
hazardous locations
• Can monitor up to 15 probes with one control unit
• Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) displays probe number
and status
• Keyboard entry of alarm conditions and relay closures
• LCD visual alarm displays
• Audible alarm — continuous for alarm, pulsing for error
• RS232C data output
• Microprocessor -based system
• Permanent nonvolatile memory backup
• Factory selectable voltages =120 VAC, 240 VAC Factory
Available, 50/60 Hz
• Internal circuit breaker
Mode of operation:
System works on the principles of conduction (liquids) and
adsorption (vapors). Typical water is a conductive, or polar
fluid. Hydrocarbons are non-conductive, or non -polar sub-
stances. The system circuitry can differentiate between
polar and non -polar fluids and provide the appropriate
alarms and contact closures when a non -polar fluid is
detected.
Vapors are detected by a cold sensor that electrically
measures the force of adsorption and translates it to a resis-
tive change. When a predetermined vapor threshold is ex-
ceeded, the system again provides the appropriate alarms.
Installation requirements:
Sensor
NEC Class I, Division 1, Group D
hazardous locations.
Cable length
1000 feet maximum to any probe.
Control unit
Wall mounted enclosure. (indoors)
Dimensions
10"H x 8"W x 4"D.
Power
120 VAC, 240 VAC Factory Available,
50/60 Hz, 18W.
Application limits:
Measurements Detects the presence or absence of hydro-
carbons and other non -polar liquids.
Recognizes three ambient media: dry,
wet, hydrocarbon.
Detection limit 0.125 inch layer, oil -in -water minimum.
Factory pre-set at 0.25 inches. Minimum
layer for dry surface detection varies with
probe models: 0.25 to 2 inches.
Ambient 0°C to + 50°C.
temperature
Economical probes for any application:
• Ground water probes • Vapor detect probes
• Surface water probes • Reservoir probes
• Double-wall tank probes • Piping probes
Outputs provided:
Indicators LCD display with description for:
• Alert — secondary alarms
• Leak — primary alarms
• Probe No. —1 through 15
• Oil/Wet/Dry/Error— status displays
Alarm Keyboard entry to program up to four
optional relays.
