GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS -DOUBLE WALL FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC (FRP) UNDERGROUND <br />ORT FORM: <br />The contractor shall provide Double Wall Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic <br />(FRP) U.L. labeled underground storage tanks as shown on the drawings. <br />Sizes and fittings shall be as shown. ASTM standard document number D4021-81. <br />2. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (U.L.) File MH 9061 (N) for <br />storage of flammable liquids. A U.L. certification plate shall be <br />attached to each tank. <br />3. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA30) Flammable and <br />Combustible Liquids Code and (NFPA31) Standard for <br />Installation of Oil Burning Equipment. <br />4. National Sanitation Foundation, Standard 14. <br />5. Factory Mutual Systems approval J.I. 1 G4AO.AF. <br />6. Military Specifications No. MIL -T-52777 (A). <br />Governing Standards; secondary tank: <br />1. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (U.L.) File MH 9061 (N) for <br />storage of flammable liquids. A U.L. certification plate shall be <br />attached to each tank. <br />2. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA30) Flammable and <br />Combustible Liquids Code and (NFPA31) Standard for <br />Installation of Oil Burning Equipment. <br />Submittals <br />Shop Drawings: Contractor shall submit copies of shop <br />drawings for each tank. Drawings shall show locations of all fittings, <br />accessories, and critical dimensions. <br />Catalog Data: Contractor shall submit. copies of manufac- <br />turer's literature to include__ ___ copies of manufacturer's current <br />installation instructions. <br />Part II Products <br />2.01 <br />A. <br />B. <br />�-A <br />Double Wall Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Underground <br />Storage Tanks with a Primary (internal) tank and a Secondary (exter- <br />nal) tank. <br />Loading Conditions -Tank shall meet the following design criteria: <br />1. Internal load: Primary and Secondary tanks shall withstand 5 psi <br />air pressure test with 5 to 1 safety factor. Contractor shall <br />individually test tanks prior to installation as this is to test for <br />leakage. Maximum test pressure is 5 psi. <br />2. Vacuum Test: Every tank shall be mercury vacuum tested by the <br />tank manufacturer to assure structural integrity. Primary tank <br />shall be tested to 11.5 inches and secondary tank tested to 9.5 <br />inches mercury vacuum. <br />3. Surface Loads: Tank shall withstand surface H-20 axle loads <br />when properly installed according to current manufacturer's <br />installation instructions. <br />4. External hydrostatic pressure: Buried in ground with 7' of over- <br />burden over the top of the tank, the hole fully flooded and a <br />safety factor of 7:1 against general buckling. <br />5. Tanks shall support accessory equipment such as heating coils, <br />drop tubes, submersible pumps, ladders when installed accord- <br />ing to tank manufacturer's recommendations and limitations. <br />Product Storage: <br />1. Tanks shall be capable of storing petroleum with specific gravity <br />up to 1.1. <br />2. Both primary and secondary tanks shall be individually vented to <br />atmospheric pressure. The tanks are not designed as pressure <br />vessels. <br />v <br />3. Tanks shall be capable of storing gasoline or gasohol (10% <br />ethanol and 90% gasoline mixture), jet fuel, diesel fuel, AV gas, <br />potable water at ambient underground temperature or fuel oil at <br />temperatures not to exceed 150° F. <br />C. Each tank shall be equipped with two 22" I.D. manways. Each steel <br />manway cover shall have three 4" NPT fittings welded in place. <br />D. Materials: <br />1. Tanks (Primary and Secondary) shall be manufactured with 100% <br />isophthalic polyester resin and glass fiber reinforcement with no <br />sand fillers. <br />E. Annular Space <br />1. Tank shall have a space between the primary and secondary <br />shell walls to allow for the free flow and containment of all leaked <br />product from the primary tank. Space also allows the insertion of <br />a monitoring device through a monitoring fitting. <br />F. Tank Dimensions (Refer to Xerxes literature on gallonage.) <br />1. Tank shall have nominal capacity of gallons. <br />2. Tank shall have nominal outside diameter feet. <br />3. Tank shall have approximate overall length of feet. <br />2.02 Accessories <br />A. Anchor Straps -Provide FRP anchor straps as manufactured by tank <br />manufacturer. Number and location of straps shall be specified in <br />current installation instructions of tank manufacturer. <br />B. Manways <br />1. All manways to be flanged and 22" I.D. complete with U.L. listed <br />gaskets, bolts and covers. (30" I.D. manway is also available.) <br />2. Location as shown on drawings. <br />3. Manway extension tubes shall be FRP and 24" long for manways <br />shown on drawings. <br />4. Each steel manway cover shall have three -4" NPT fittings <br />welded in place. <br />C. Fill Tubes <br />1. Tubes shall be FRP and factory installed by manufacturer. <br />2. Location as shown on drawing. <br />3. Tubes shall be 4" diameter with 6" steel fitting and a 6" x 4" dou- <br />ble tapped reducer bushing. <br />D. Gauge Plates - Shall be installed at location shown on drawing. <br />E. Heating Coils <br />1. Heating Coils shall be installed in a separate 22" manways and <br />shall be standard items supplied by tank manufacturer. <br />2. Location as shown on drawings. <br />F. NPT Threaded Fittings <br />1. All threaded fittings shall be a material of construction consistent <br />with the requirements of U.L. label. <br />2. All standard thread fittings shall be half couplings and shall be 4" <br />in diameter. Reducers are to be used for smaller sizes where <br />shown and provided by contractor. <br />3. Sizes Standard Other Sizes <br />Fill 4" <br />Gauge 4" <br />Inlet 4" <br />Outlet 4" <br />Vent 4" <br />4. Suction Line -Shall be installed by contractor on site. Pipes shall <br />terminate a minimum of 4" from bottom of tank. <br />5. Return line shall be installed by contractor. <br />G. Monitor Fittings <br />1. Tank shall have two test monitor fittings consisting of a 2" NPT <br />fitting on the primary tank and a 6" NPT fitting directly above on <br />the secondary tank. <br />2.
