6ETTLER-RYAN INC.
September 23, 1998
Mr. David J. Camille
Tosco Marketing Company
2000 Crow Canyon Place, Suite 400
San Ramon, California 94583
Subject: Soil Sampling Report for Tosco 76 Branded Facility No. 11194, 2375 Tracy
Boulevard, Tracy, California.
Dear Mr. Camille:
At the request of Tosco Marketing Company (Tosco), Gettler-Ryan Inc. (GR) was present at the subject site
on June 12, 1998, to perform soil sampling beneath the waste oil underground storage tank (UST) remote
fill for soil characterization and subsequent abandonment of the remote fill piping. Mr. Steve Sasson of the
San Joaquin County Division of Environmental Health (SJCDEH) was present on-site during soil sampling
activities.
SOIL SAMPLING
Prior to sampling, a 12 -inch diameter concrete core was removed (by drilling) from the service bay floor
near the waste oil UST remote fill inside the station building. Per the direction of Mr. Sasson of SJCDEH
one soil sample, labeled RF1 (3), was collected from beneath the remote fill at a depth of approximately 3
feet below ground surface (bgs). The soil sample location is shown on the attached Figure 1. The soil
sample was collected by the use of a hand auger and a driven tube -type soil sampler. The sample was
collected in a clean 2 -inch diameter brass tube, which was capped, labeled and placed in a cooler for
preservation. The sample was subsequently delivered to Sequoia Analytical Laboratory (FLAP #1271),
located in Walnut Creek California, for chemical analysis.
The soil sample RFI (3) was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline (TPHg) and
total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as diesel (TPHd) by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
method 8015 modified, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA method 8020,
halogenated volatile organic compounds by EPA method 8010, methyl tertbutyl ether (MTBE) by EPA
method 8260, polychlorinated biphenyls by EPA method 8080, and the metals cadmium, chromium,
hexavalent chromium, lead, nickel, and zinc.
The analytical results showed non-detectable concentrations of all constituents analyzed, except for
chromium at 31 ppm, nickel at 39 ppm, and zinc at 52 ppm. Analytical methods and results are summarized
in Table 1, and copies of the laboratory reports and chain of custody documentation are attached. Based
upon field observation and the analytical results, it appears that soil beneath the waste oil UST remote fill
had not been impacted with hydrocarbons.
140187.03
6747 Sierra Court, Suite J • Dublin, California 94568 (925) 551 -7555
