" µIG & SAFE'T'Y 200 7.0 SITE SAFETY AND HEALTH PROCEDURES 7.1 SITE SECURITY AND ENTRY Tait Environmental Systems will have the overall responsibility of the site security during all periods of on going site activities. Access to the site for field personnel and visitors will be controlled by the SSHO. Prior to starting a safety meeting will be conducted to discuss health and safety issues, and the necessary protective equipment required for the site activities. The SSHO or Field Supervisor will conduct these meetings. 7.2 WORK ZONES The SSHO will designate the area surrounding the UST's into an Exclusion Zone, Decontamination Zone, or Support Zone. EXCLUSION ZONE: The Exclusion Zone is the innermost of three concentric areas, and is the zone where contamination is known to or could occur. All personnel entering the Exclusion Zone will wear the prescribed level of protection for the specific site. Checkpoint for entry and exit will be established at the periphery of the zone to regulate the flow of personnel and equipment into and out of the zone, and to verify that established entry and exit procedures are followed. The area necessary to conduct the task of the project will determine the boundary of this zone, and the potential for contaminants to be blown or splashed form the site activity. When this boundary is determined, it will be marked; and than only individuals approved by the SSHO can enter this zone. During subsequent site operations, the boundary may be modified/adjusted, as additional information becomes available. The tank pit area shall be considered the exclusion zone for the project. In addition to this, the piping trenches and dispenser islands shall be included in the exclusion zone until old dispensers and piping are removed, and after new piping and dispensers are installed and filled with product. DECONTAMINATION ZONE: An Equipment Decontamination Area must be established for each Exclusion Zone. It may be part of the Exclusion Zone, outside of the zone, or both. Equipment, such as sampling devices, which must be decontaminated before being reused in an Exclusion Zone, may be decontaminated in the Exclusion Zone. Equipment, such as hand auger, will be decontaminated in a relatively uncontaminated area in a Contamination Reduction Zone before leaving the controlled area. Protective 10
