Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Fourth Quarter 1991 Status Report on LLNL Closure Activities for
Underground Storage Tank 850-D1U1 (85041D) as Regulated
under Title 23,California Code of Regulations,Section 2652 (d).
Dear Mr. Wilson:
This letter serves as the October through December 1991 Quarterly
Status Report for underground storage tank (UST) closure activities at Site
300 which are managed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's
(LLNL) Environmental Restoration Division. LLNL's Operations and
Regulatory Affairs Division manages several other UST projects and those
reports are submitted separately.
UST 850-DIU1 (850-41D)
During the fourth quarter of 1991 we continued remedial action at the
Building 850 tank excavation at Site 300. The tank excavation once
contained a 1,500 gallon, diesel-fuel UST and is located on a steep hillside
just south of Building 850. Piping from the tank terminates in a Christy
Box near the building. Our remedial action addresses the approximately 20
gallons of diesel fuel that were released during the 1985 tank removal
operation. A total of 67 soil and bedrock samples have been collected from
the tank excavation and along the diesel fuel-piping. The samples have
been analyzed for Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel
(TEPH-diesel) using EPA Methods 3550/8015 and for BTEX(Benzene,
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes) using EPA Methods 3550/8020.
Quarterly sampling of nearby monitor well W-850-05 (Figure 1) has not
detected any petroleum fuel hydrocarbons in ground water.
An Equal Opportunity Employer•Universityof California•PO Box 808 Livermore,Califomia 94550•Telephone(415)422-1100•Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL LVMR
