The
underground fuel storage tanks located at Site 300 are monitored according to the
provisions of Alternative 5 (Title 23, CCR, Sections 2641 [c][5] and 2644 [e]). The two
tanks subject to the Alternative 5 system are designated by tank number 879-G1U1 and
879-G2U1. Both tanks are used to supply gasoline to laboratory vehicles only.
For the second quarter 1991, there was one variation that exceeded the allowable
limits for tank 879-G2U1 (refer to Table 1). The reason for this variation is unknown. It
is highly probable that the cause of this variation can be associated with the annual
testing of the tank. As a future precaution, the tank will be stabilized longer after the
annual leak testing prior to taking the initial dip stick measurement. There is no
evidence that the aforementioned tank was leaking because the tank passed the annual
leak test four days prior to this variation. In addition, the remaining daily
reconciliations were within allowable limits.
Enclosed is an Inventory Reconciliation Quarterly Summary Report Form for
Second Quarter 1991 for your records. Also included is Table 1. which provides more
detailed information that cannot be readily accommodated on the standard Summary
Report Form.
An Equal Opportunity Employer-Universityof California-P.O.Box 808 Livermore,Califomia 94550*Telephone(415)422-1100-Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL LVMR
