i
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
December 26, 1990
Mr. Doug Wilson
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P. O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Submittal of the Investigation Report of the 850-D1 U1 Underground
Storage Tank at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Site 300
Dear Mr. Wilson:
Enclosed is our report of the investigation of the 850-DlUl underground
storage tank at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Site 300.
This report describes the soil and bedrock sampling for the diesel fuel
present in the soil beneath the 850-DlUl tank excavation. The investigation
was conducted to characterize the extent of the diesel fuel that was released
during the 1985 tank removal operation. Ground water beneath the tank
excavation is not contaminated with diesel fuel.
The characterization of diesel fuel in the soil and bedrock is now complete.
Approximately 19 cubic yards of soil and bedrock contains total diesel
concentrations in excess of 100 ppm. Remediation will be discussed in the
forthcoming Building 850/East Firing Area Feasibility Study.
If you have any questions, please call Albert Lamarre at (415) 422-0757 or
contact him by mail at P. O. Box 808, Mail Stop L-528, Livermore, CA, 94550.
Sincerely,
Q Fredric Hoffman
Division Leader
Environmental Restoration Division
FH:AL:jz
enclosure
cc w/enc:
M.
