As the tank was lifted from the excavation, ten gallons of diesel fuel sludge
poured through a corrosion hole in the bottom of the tank. This release resulted in
the removal of the free liquid remaining in the tank. The corrosion hole was
reamed and plugged and the tank was loaded for shipping. Impacted soil was
excavated,placed an plastic,and sampled for TPH-D analysia.
In addition to the release through the corrosion hole, sensory evidence suggested
that diesel fuel was disseminated in fill gravel and soil below the tank. Suspected
impacted matmWs were excavated, placed an plastic, and sampled for TPH-D
analysis. The disseminated contamination may be explained as resulting from
historic tank overfilling and/or slow tank leakage.
Mr. Bill Snavely of your office was present at the job-site and was a witness to the
827DIUI dosure activities. Therefore, the required 24--hour verba] notification was
Immediate.
