Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized (Leak)/
Contaminaf ion Site Report,Tank 834-DIU1 at Building 834
Attaoied is an Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release (Leak)/
Contan-driation Site Report for system 834-DIUI at Lawrence Livermore
Natibnal Laboratory Site 300,
Und&ground storage tank 834-DlUl at Building SM was a 1000 gallon single-wall
carbon steel tank that supplied diesel fuel to the Building 871 standby generator,
On JOiy 27, 1994,the to 9"m was closed and the tank was rmoved from the
growid. The swell of diesel fuel was noted in the excavation in the excavated
mateTials.
Soil gamples were collected within the excavation and from the soil removed from
the cava 'o and submitted for analyses of diesel fuel (T.FH-D) and BTXE. The
coli ettim and preparation of samples was wflnessed by Bill Snavely of your office.
We Will forward the analytical laboratory's report of the results of analyses when it
becoites available.
Mr. Sinavely stated a belief that the evidence of diesel fuel in the soil below the tank
was dssociated with the previously detected diesel fuel in groundwater in the nearby
monitoring well installed in the shallow perched aquifer in the .
Because the tank system has consistently tested leak tight, the suspected cause of the
contakninat'on is historic tank overfilling.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Richard Henry at
(510)423-3641.
ice
Susi Jackson, 81 in Leader
Operations and Regulatory Affairs
C8J:rIth/e&m Environmental Protection Department
Attachment
CA
