CLOSURE REPORT FOR <br /> UNDERGROUND DIESEL STORAGE TANK <br /> 834-D1U1 <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Location of underground storage tank (UST) 834-DlUl at Lawrence Livermore National <br /> Laboratory(LLNL): southwest of Building 834A <br /> The tank supplied diesel fuel to the Building 834 emergency generator located immediately <br /> north of the tank. <br /> The tank was closed and was replaced by a new aboveground storage tank. <br /> Date the tank was removed from service: 7/21/94. <br /> Date the tank Closure Plan was submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health Services on <br /> 5117/94. <br /> Tank Volume Dimensions Construction Date of Contents <br /> (gallons) Installation <br /> 1000 5'X 7' Single-walled 1960 Diesel Fuel <br /> Carbon Steel <br /> [ X ] UST 834-D1Ul approved Closure Plan Application for Underground Tank Closure <br /> Permit enclosed as Appendix A. <br /> TANK/PIPING INFORMATION: <br /> The tank contents were recovered by: Evergreen Environmental Services Date: 7 4. <br /> The tank contents were transported bv: Evergreen Environmental Services Date: Z/20/94• <br /> The tank contents were disposed of as: Combustible Liquid n.o.s. (diesel fuel) Date: 7/20/94. <br /> Final disposition of the tank's contents: Evergreen Oil,Inc. Date: 7Z20/94. <br /> Name and address of disposal facility: Evergreen Oil. Inc.. 6880 Smith Avenue, Newark. CA <br /> 94560 (510)795-4400. <br /> [ X ] Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest "Treatment, Storage, Disposal (TSD) Facility to <br /> Generator" and LLNL Hazardous Waste Disposal Requisition copies for tank contents <br /> are enclosed as Appendix B. <br /> A representative of San Joaquin County, Mr. William Snavely was present during tank removal <br /> activities. <br /> Method of inerting: Addition of 200 lbs. dry ice into tank. <br /> Lower explosive limit (LEL) reading or oxygen level reading within the tank prior to tank <br /> removal: 0%LEL, 1%OZ <br /> Name and affiliation of the person who measured the LEL reading or oxygen level reading <br /> within the tank prior to tank removal: Jerry Ledbetter(LLNL). <br /> The tank was removed by: Stone and Webster Date: 7/27/94. <br /> Total length of aboveground piping removed: None. <br /> Total length of underground piping removed: 18 feet. <br /> Type/diameter of aboveground piping: NA. <br /> Type/diameter of underground piping: 3/4 inch steel. <br /> Any piping closed in place: [ X ]Yes* [ ]No <br /> *(Piping closed in place under concrete slab with generator). <br /> Describe where the piping was closed in place,and how it was closed(e.g. grouted and capped): <br /> Fuel contents were drained into the tank and the piping was cut and capped at the edge of the <br /> concrete generator pad. <br /> Underground concrete tank anchoring structure(s)were present: [ ]Yes [ X ] No <br /> Size and location of the concrete tank anchoring structure(s): NA <br /> 1 <br />
