10-R Emergency ShufvOff Valves OPW 10-R Series Emergency Shut-off Valves are mounted on fuel lines at island surface level within the pedestal (see typical service station layout, page 4) as a precautionary measure. Should the pedestal be over- turned, or dislocated due to being bumped, or because of ground heave caused by freezing, the OPW 10-R Series valves are designed so that the top section shears off when properly installed with a tight attachment to the piping sec- tion. This in turn, causes the valve to close. Further gasoline spillage is prevented. Standard Features: ■ The OPW 10-R Series valves feature the main seat in the top assembly. This assures a new seating surface each time the valve top is replaced, improving performance and extending valve ser- vice life. (OPW recommends that the electrical supply to the pump associated with an emergency valve, be turned off during valve or meter service.) ■ When the 10-R valve is open, the poppet is out of the flow area giving straight - through, free flow. There is low pressure loss. ■ The OPW 10-R Series valves have a built-in air test port to allow testing the entire pumping system pneumatically, without breaking the line after installation is complete. ■ Fusible Link releases in the event of fire allowing the valve to automatically close which reduces the fire hazard. The OPW 10-R Series emergency shut-off valves are designed to handle today's multi -fuel blends including alcohol -enhanced fuels such as methanol or ethanol blends up to 15%. OPW has designed features into every 10-R Series emergency valve to help protect gasoline dispensers against impact and fire. OPW 10-R Series Emergency Shut-off Valves meet the requirements of UL STANDARD 842. Styles: There are two body styles of OPW 10-R Series shut-off valves, and three types of top connection ends available for each body style. The top connection end of OPW 10 -RU is union type; on OPW 10 -RF the top connection is female threaded; on OPW 10 -RM it is male threaded.
