i7
Control Engineers, U.S.A. Page
Float Switches - Commonly constructed of a hermetically sealed magnetic relay
imbedded by float.
within a metal stem and actuated a surrounding
Conductivity Probe - Consist of two metal pins and associated electronics capable
of sensing the different electrical conductivity characteristics of water and
petroleum.
Light Refraction - Consist of light emitter, light receiver, and associated
electronics capable of detecting the presence of a liquid. When combined
with the Conductivity Probe the resulting probe is capable of detecting Dry,
■
■
Wet, and Hydrocarbon states.
Thermal Absorption - Electronic Sensor sensitive to heat loss when submerged in
liquid. When combined with the Conductivity Probe the resulting probe is
capable of detecting Dry, Wet, and Hydrocarbon states.
Product Soluble - Commonly constructed of two spring loaded electrical switches
each independently restrained by liquid sensitive filaments. One filament
dissolves in contact with water only, the other dissolves in contact with
petroleum. This probe is capable of detecting Dry, Wet, and Hydrocarbon
states. Obviously this probe is destroyed when tested.
Carbon Polymer - Consist of a rubbery belt and associated electronics capable of
detecting the existence of less than 0.0625 inch of hydrocarbon along any
portion of the belt length.
VAPOR DETECTORS - Due to the expense of installing and maintaining and
the poor performance record of this technology, its use will be allowed only
when required by local code. For this reason no review of this technology
will be presented.
Control Engineers, U.S.A. Page
