High Flow Capacity RED THREAD II pipe has a greater flow capacity than many other pipes with the same O.D. This is because its high-strength, fiberglass construction provides a smoother I.D. and can pro- vide a larger I.D. for specified pressures. Thermal Conductivity The thermal conductivity of RED THREAD II pipe is only a fraction of that of steel. Low Coefficient of Linear Expansion The coefficient of expansion of RED THREAD II pipe is t/s to'/8 thatof thermo- plastic pipe and only twice that of steel. Adhesives Designed specifically for the RED THREAD II piping system, the adhe- sives required for joining product and containment piping are Smith Fiber- glass Products DS -7000 series adhesives. Tapering When RED THREAD II pipe is cut to length on the job site, the cut end must be retapered. A field tapering tool avail- able from Smith Fiberglass Products is used for this purpose. The tool quickly applies the proper taper by a shaving operation — similar to a pencil shar- pener. Plain unthreaded field -made tapers can be joined with factory - installed threaded T.A.B. Joint coupled ends. Either factory -made T.A.B. spigots or field -made tapers may be joined with belled fittings. For proper tapering, carefully follow the operating instruc- tions (bulletin 9106) included with the tapering tool kit. For detailed installation instructions covering assembly, burial, testing and repair, refer to Smith Fiberglass Products bulletin 1055 for product piping and bulletin 1190 for containment piping. Handling and Storage RED THREAD II pipe is packaged in compact bundles of four to eight lengths. Bundles of RED THREAD II pipe can be safely stored on level ground or on racks with 10 -foot (or less) support spacing. Reasonable care must be used in handling RED THREAD II pipe. Do not drop or throw RED THREAD II pipe on the ground or drop rocks or other heavy objects on it. Follow the proper procedures for inspecting piping materials as stated in Smith Fiberglass Products installation bulletin 1055.
