Geosyntec°
4. PILOT TEST IMPLEMENTATION
4.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to commencing field implementation activities, the following will be performed:
• The Site-specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) will be updated to support
implementation of the pilot test. The HASP will be kept on-Site during field
implementation and reviewed by project staff during daily tailgate health and safety
meetings;
• Drilling permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (SJCEHD) for all wells located at the three pilot test locations;
• Access will be established with Simplot and other off-Site property owners including Super
Store Industries, Inc. under existing agreements, as necessary. All property owners will be
properly notified of the proposed scope of work, work hours and schedule in advance of
field implementation;
• The boring locations will be marked with white paint or stakes and underground service
alert (USA) will be contacted a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencement of drilling
activities; and
• A private utility locator will perform physical surveys to clear potential subsurface utilities
or other obstructions at the proposed boring locations prior to drilling work.
Because sulfolane degradation was not observed in water samples from the PSW, additional
amendments including nutrients or bioaugmentation using a microbial culture capable of
degrading sulfolane may be required to enhance ISB near Pilot Test Area B and C. This may
require procurement of the CVRWQCB's WDR General Waiver permit or a modification to the
Site-specific WDR prior to implementation. If a permit is required, pilot testing(air injection only)
may be initiated at PTA A, while permit procurement activities are undertaken for the additional
amendments.
4.2 Pilot Testing Activities
4.2.1 Well Installation and Development
4.2.2.1 Mobilization and Site Preparation
Prior to commencement of drilling activities, the drill-rig and associated equipment and an air-
knife crew will mobilize to the Site. The proposed drilling locations will be air-knifed to a
minimum of 5 feet bgs or deeper depending on property owner preference to clear utilities prior to
commencement of drilling activities. Appropriately sized containers for storing waste generated
during drilling activities will also be mobilized and placed in an accessible location at the Site.
In-Situ Bioremediation Pilot Test Work Plan—GSH Lathrop 8
