! oi;s-Ldlewda MarMt
August 16,IM
. Pit 1 at depths ranging from 11 to 17 feet bgs indicated no evidence of petroleum
! contamination at or above the reported laboratory detection limits.
The source(s) of hydrocarbon contamination (the UST`s) have been removed from the
Idlewlld Market site. However, a small volume of approximately 1 to 3 cubic yards of
hydrocarbon impacted soil may be present from approximate 6 to 11 feet beneath the south end
of the canopy foundation. The concrete foundation overlying the potentially impacted soil will
hmlt infiltration and subsequent migration of surface water through the vadose zone thereby
decreasing the potential for mobilization of contaminates.
Based on the findings from this and previous investigations, Condor recommends no
Ifurther remediation at this time Pit 1 was partially backfilled with pea gravel following the
May, 1993, over-excavation. Following placement of a layer of geofabnc on top of the pea
gravel, the remainder of Pit 1 should be backfilled with soil from the onsite stockpile to
approximately 12-inches below grade Pit 1 should then be filled with road base material and
paved with asphalt or concrete. Compaction testing should be performed after the placement
of the stockpiled soil to ensure the structural integrity of the soil. In the event that the canopy
is removed at some time in the future, removal of the suspected contaminated soil could be
. evaluated
At the request of the property owner, the remainder of the stockpiled soil would be
spread on the lawn area of the property owner's residence located adjacent to Idlewild Market.
The SJCPHS,EHD representative on site during drilling observed the proposed final location of
the stockpiled soil. The proposed location is greater than 1,000 feet from the sewer drain
located near the northwest comer of the intersection of Devnes Road and Highway 12 and no
schools or residential areas are within 1,000 feet.
