Based on these results, Dole requests closure of the former UST site.
BACKGROUND
A 550-gallon UST containing gasoline (Figure 2) was removed from the site in 1991. Site
closure was requested for the former UST area' from the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD). In response, the PHS/EHD requested
that soil and/or groundwater samples be collected from the former UST area for analysis of
MtBE.
In March 2000, soil samples collected at about 15 and 20 feet below ground surface (bgs)
from two borings in this area (Figure 2) were analyzed for gasoline oxygenates using EPA
Method 8250 and for BTEX using EPA Method 8020. No BTEX compounds were detected
in these samples. MtBE was detected at concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 0.08 milligrams
per kilogram (mg/kg) in three of the four samples.
Based on these results, the PHS/EHD requested a groundwater sample be collected in the
vicinity of the UST. At Dole's request, Geomatrix prepared a work plane for collecting a
' Chaney,Walton&McCall LLC,Support for Site Closure,October 15, 1999.
2 Geomatrix Consultants,Inc.,Work Plan for Shallow Groundwater Sampling,Former Underground Storage
'rank Area,Former Dole Fresh Fruit—Victor Fruit Operations, 8751 East Highway 12,Victor,California,
July 17, 2000.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
Engineers, Geologists, and Environmental Scientists
1:1PROJEC"n6508.0001docutnent16508-06.doe
