Tenth St.
Tracy, CA 95376
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Exploratory Boring Soil and Groundwater Sampling Report dated
September 4, 2000 prepared by Wright Environmental Services, Inc., for the above
referenced site. Monitoring well #1 (previously located in the source area) had evidenced
the highest concentrations of groundwater contaminants at this site. This monitoring well
was destroyed in 1999 to accommodate the removal of contaminated soil and
groundwater from the source area. Subsequently PHS/EHD, in a letter dated December
20, 1999, directed that the vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination be
determined in the source area at the site, where monitoring well 41 was previously
located. A single boring (B14) was installed in the source area to a depth of 32 feet
below surface grade (bsg). Soil and groundwater samples collected from B14 evidenced
low concentrations of petroleum contaminants.
A soil sample collected at 16 feet below surface grade (bsg) in B14 evidenced
contaminant concentrations of 0.064 parts per million (ppm) benzene and 0.029 ppm
ethylbenzene. Contaminants were not detected in soil samples collected below 16 feet.
A groundwater sample collected at 20 feet bsg evidenced total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg) at 6600 parts per billion (ppb), benzene at 540 ppb, toluene at 79 ppb,
ethylbenzene at 350 ppb, and xylenes at 120 ppb. However, quarterly monitoring
groundwater samples collected from adjacent monitoring wells at this site are consistently
non-detectable for contaminants. PHS/EHD agrees with the conclusion and
recommendations in the report, which states that soil and groundwater samples collected
at the site evidence low residual contamination remaining near the source area and the
contamination does not appear to be migrating.
A complete Closure Report should be submitted to PHS/EHD by December 13 2000.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
