Soil and groundwater samples will
be taken downgradient of MW-1 from beneath Tenth Street. The data gathered during this
investigation will enable a downgradient well to be located at the furthest downgradient portion
of the plume.
The PHS/EHD comment letter dated April 6, 1995 indicated that the plume is undefined
downgradient of MW-1 and B-3. The comment letter recommends a workplan for the
overexcavation of former UST location and installation of a monitoring well be submitted by
May 1, 1995. The current workplan does not indicate the additional well which will be installed
as a result of this interim investigation. The current workplan does not mention removal or
remediation of existing soil contamination which is continuing to degrade groundwater quality
in the vicinity of the site.
The current interim workplan describes a subsurface investigation of the portion of Tenth Street
which is downgradient of MW-1. If contamination is detected at the northern boundary of Tenth
Street indicating the presence of the plume on the adjacent parcel, then a new permit should be
obtained for step out borings and the construction of a downgradient well on the adjacent parcel.
If the plume appears to be contained beneath the area bounded by Tenth Street then a monitoring
well should be installed under a new permit in the sidewalk area.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
